This blog post is a little over due and honestly I have no idea why I haven’t posted it yet. In this post I won’t be sharing any names or faces for privacy and security reasons!
My team (Bethesda) was doing our Roman’s Bible study at a chick-fil-a the morning of September 22nd. As we were reading Roman’s 10, we stopped at verse 16 “how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news”. This verse brought up the conversation of how in todays society we look at feet and are grossed out. They are considered “disgusting” and you’re “weird” if you like them. And yet, they are one of the most beautiful parts of the body in Gods eyes. They were created so we could walk to the ends of the earth and share his good news. They are a true masterpiece.
Thursday was our ministry day during training camp so we knew we were going to go out but had no idea where. About an hour before we left they told us we were going to a women’s home to stain their stairs and deck. And the name of this home was truly godsend. This is a place where they help women out of sex trafficking, prison, rehab, prostitution, and help them start a new life. They give them a home (rent free), food, toiletries, help get lost or taken documents, keep track of probations, help them stay clean, and so much more. We then get a tour of the house and end up talking to g during one of her sessions. She shared with us how she got there, some of her testimony, and some advice for us during this new adventure we’re on. We spent awhile talking to her and even longer when s and c joined in. They are the other two women living there currently. S also shared some of her testimony and c gave us more advice. It was incredible getting to know these women and being able to serve them as well.
We decided that we wanted to go back and hangout with them on Saturday for our sabbath. We got ready and picked up some flowers and snacks from Kroger’s on the way there. We were filled with excitement then walked in to a table of snacks, flowers, coffee, cute mugs, and gifts. We had the utmost memorable time talking, sharing some of our testimonies, eating pastries, laughing, going on walk, and eating fresh baked cupcakes. And then they tell us about this event called “princess night” they have at the rehabilitation center they all were at. G told us they had it every Saturday and had asked her to come even when she was on the streets just so she knew she was loved. This is a night where they put a crown on your head, wash your feet, get anointed and pray together. A night that shows them they are apart of the kingdom. They brought out a metal tub of warm water with bubbles, oils, lotions, a crown and their Bible. We looked at each other with jaws completely dropped. They washed each of our feet, anointed us, and prayed with us. We all ended up crying and in awe of these women. It was one of the most beautiful moments and I will absolutely never forget it.
What a beautiful ministry opportunity with Beautiful Feet. I’m sure their stories and advice will help when you encounter similar women and stories in Cambodia.
